The City of Key West is urging the community to help us keep storm drains clear. Although the City has a robust drain-clearing program, residents have a more intimate knowledge of problem spots around their homes.Adopt-a-Drain is a community volunteer program aimed at reducing localized flooding during the rainy season while protecting local waterways from pollution. Keeping storm drains and grates clear of leaves, litter, and other debris helps maintain proper drainage and prevents pollutants from entering canals, nearshore waters, and the ocean.Through this program, residents, businesses, and neighborhood groups can “adopt” a nearby storm drain and help monitor and remove debris as it accumulates. The program promotes environmental stewardship, cleaner neighborhoods, improved stormwater management, and community pride while helping protect the natural beauty and waterways of the community. To learn more about the program and get involved, click here to access the fillable PDF application.
