Property Tax Reform Stalls; Tequesta Budget at Risk
Property tax reform proposals remain stalled in the Florida Legislature, raising concerns about potential fiscal challenges for smaller municipalities like Tequesta.
A proposed measure that would have eliminated non-school homestead property taxes has not advanced through both chambers. If such a reform were enacted, Tequesta could face significant revenue losses estimated at approximately $6.1 million annually—roughly 45% of its property tax revenue and 30% of its General Fund. The village would need to cut parks, recreation, roads, and administrative services or find alternative revenue sources.
The Village of Tequesta will continue to monitor legislative developments and post updates on its website.
