Agricultural Inspection Station No. 10 - White Springs DUTY OFFICER Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Florida Forest Service OPEN UNTIL FILLED CONTACT: Melissa Mikolaichik (352) 330-5288 DUTIES: This is law enforcement work involving the enforcement of laws and regulations relating to agriculture, including but not limited to, citrus, disease and pest control, weights and measures, food safety, aquaculture, animal industry, and forestry. General duties include patrolling assigned areas and inspection stations. Employee is responsible for performing duties related to the proper utilization of state vehicles, purchasing card, and complying with state purchasing guidelines. Employee is required to participate in emergency operations as assigned. Responds to public inquiries by providing information, directions and assistance regarding local, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to areas enforced by the department. Inspects agricultural products, conveyances and facilities for compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Enforces laws and regulations by issuing warnings and citations, and/or making arrests. Prepares reports of activities and investigations, and maintains files. Operates and maintains assigned equipment. Participates in training programs. Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices. Knowledge of agricultural laws and regulations. Ability to conduct investigations. Ability to operate and maintain assigned equipment. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to prepare reports and maintain files. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida Driver License. Must be certified as a law enforcement officer in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapter 943, or be actively enrolled in a Florida law enforcement academy, or have completed a law enforcement academy and awaiting the state certification exam. Must be able to patrol assigned areas and inspection stations. NOTES: Successful applicant must pass a background check.
