Commuters in multiple counties across our region should prepare for patchy to areas of fog this morning, with some locations experiencing dense fog reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less. The fog is particularly prevalent within and near sheltered river valleys. Conditions are expected to gradually improve an hour or two after sunrise. This advisory is effective until 9:15 AM UTC (5:15 AM EDT) today, October 8, 2026.

Affected areas include Cherokee, Clay, Scott, Campbell, Claiborne, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Johnson, Morgan, Anderson, Union, Grainger, Hamblen, Northwest Cocke, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Northwest Greene, Southeast Greene, Washington, Unicoi, Northwest Carter, Southeast Carter, Roane, Loudon, Knox, Jefferson, NW Blount, Blount Smoky Mountains, North Sevier, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs, McMinn, Northwest Monroe, Southeast Monroe, Marion, Hamilton, Bradley, West Polk, East Polk in Tennessee, and Lee, Wise, Scott, Russell, and Washington counties in Virginia.

If you encounter fog during your morning commute, the NWS advises you to slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow for extra distance between your vehicle and other motorists.
