Brush Creek Project Gets Tax Incentives in Jonesborough
JONESBOROUGH — The Johnson City Industrial Development Board and the Brush Creek Development Project developer signed agreements April 23 authorizing tax incentives and a land grant for a residential and commercial complex on West Walnut Street.
The project will bring over 1,000 housing units and 100,000 square feet of commercial space to the Burlington park area. The development agreement commits the developer to specific timelines, investment levels, and public benefits, while establishing performance milestones and reporting requirements.
The grant agreement transfers a key parcel at the corner of West State of Franklin Road and West Walnut Street to the developer. In exchange, the developer will expand stormwater capacity and uncover Brush Creek, creating a public park with recreational amenities.
"With these signed agreements, the IDB and the developer can move ahead on this long-awaited project," IDB Member Tommy Burleson said.
Assistant City Manager Alicia Summers said the improvements will address housing demand while transforming the area into a park environment that manages stormwater runoff.
