Residents across a wide swath of north and west central Georgia should prepare for potential damaging winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City has issued a High Wind Watch effective from late tonight, October 9, 2026, through Sunday morning, October 11, 2026, at 8:00 AM EDT.

East winds are expected to reach speeds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially as high as 50 mph. This alert covers Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, North Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Haralson, Carroll, Douglas, South Fulton, DeKalb, Rockdale, Walton, Newton, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding, and Henry counties.

Impacts from these winds could include downed trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel may also become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The NWS advises residents to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Before the winds begin, fasten any loose outdoor objects or move them to a safe, secure location.
