Strong Thunderstorm Nears Alpine: Seek Shelter Indoors
A strong thunderstorm near Alpine brings wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-size hail to the Davis Mountains and Central Brewster County; residents should seek shelter indoors by 7:00 PM CDT.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service Midland/Odessa, TX, advising residents in the Davis Mountains, Davis Mountains Foothills, and Central Brewster County of a strong thunderstorm. The statement is effective immediately, from 6:15 PM CDT, and expires at 7:00 PM CDT today, September 29, 2026.
At 6:15 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm located 12 miles south of Alpine. The storm is moving northeast at 20 mph.
The primary hazards associated with this storm are wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-size hail. Gusty winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is also possible.
This storm is expected to remain primarily over rural areas within northwestern Brewster County. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, the National Weather Service advises seeking shelter inside a building until the storm passes.
