Residents in Newton and Jasper Counties are advised to immediately seek shelter due to a strong thunderstorm with an increased chance of a brief tornado, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA at 9:26 PM EDT.
At 9:26 PM EDT, NWS radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Turtle Cove, or near Monticello, moving northeast at 25 mph. The primary hazards include 40 to 50 mph winds and an increased chance of a brief tornado.
The NWS warns that while winds are expected to cause minor damage to tree limbs and blow around light, unsecured objects, this storm has also exhibited localized rotation, indicating that a brief tornado could quickly form. Locations impacted include Newborn, Mansfield, and Eudora.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 10:00 PM EDT tonight, October 10, 2026. People outdoors should seek shelter immediately.
