WALKER COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Walker County, effective immediately from October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning is in effect until October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC (7:30 PM CDT).

Residents, particularly those in Jasper, should complete all preparations for hazardous winds and potential flooding now. Peak wind gusts of 20-30 mph, with isolated gusts up to 45 mph, are anticipated. Potential impacts include damage to lightweight structures, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant concern, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and localized rapid inundation is possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
