WALKER COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Walker County, specifically impacting Jasper, effective immediately until October 10 at 6:00 AM UTC (1:00 AM CDT). The National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning at 9:56 PM CDT on October 9, urging residents to take immediate action.

Residents should move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including unsecured objects blowing around, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Completing all property protection efforts is advised as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. This poses a significant threat of moderate flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous with potential road closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. Stay informed of the latest forecast. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
