J-D Students Lead at Syracuse Youth Leadership Conference
Four Jamesville-DeWitt High School students traveled to Albany in April to participate in the Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute's annual conference.
Stephanie Alfonso, Sara Skewes, Sneyder Jumbo Pintado, and Arturo González Sánchez attended the April 17-20 event, selected for their leadership abilities and public speaking skills. They joined more than 300 students from across New York state for workshops, mock assemblies, and debates on the assembly floor, gaining hands-on experience with the state legislative process.
Skewes won a scholarship essay contest during the conference.
The institute, founded more than 30 years ago, connects Hispanic students with elected officials, educators, and business leaders to develop leadership skills and expand their professional networks.
