A man is in critical but stable condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in a Westside shooting Sunday night. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in the incident, which occurred near the Mandarin area.

The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in the 5600 block of California Avenue, a neighborhood bordering the St. Johns River. Officers found a Black male in his mid-40s with several gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital.

Police said the victim was inside a residence when he argued with an unknown person. During the dispute, the suspect reportedly displayed a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. Investigators believe the incident was isolated and poses no ongoing threat to the community.

Detectives are investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses. They are also canvassing the area for surveillance footage and following leads. Anyone with information should contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500, email [email protected], or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
