Jaguars Honor First Responders, Vets in Season Opener
The Jacksonville Jaguars open their 2026 season Sunday, Sept. 20, against the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The game's theme centers on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, with the team honoring emergency responders and veterans.
Jacksonville holds a 12-8 all-time record against Cleveland, its best winning percentage against any opponent in franchise history. Fans can watch the game live on CBS47.
Former Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis will be honored as the Legend of the Game. Mathis, drafted 39th overall in 2003, played for Jacksonville through 2012. He ranks eighth on the team’s All-25 roster and holds franchise records for career interceptions (30) and passes defended (104). He set the single-season interception mark with eight in 2006.
Floridian singer YOSHIHANAA, a 2025 “The Voice” semifinalist, will perform the national anthem. Antony Pletenets, a student at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, will sign the anthem. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Joint Color Guard will present the colors, with flags held by Jaguars season ticket members.
A flyover will feature F-35A Lightning II aircraft from the 159th Fighter Squadron of the Florida Air National Guard’s 125th Fighter Wing, flying from Jacksonville Air National Guard Base.
Sgt. 1st Class Trevaris Ross, a Jacksonville native with over 17 years in the U.S. Army and six deployments, will serve as Bell Ringer. Electrician’s Mate Senior Chief (Submarines) Trent Parrish, a retired Navy nuclear-trained submariner who served nearly 23 years, will be recognized as Veteran of the Game.
During halftime, the Jaguars will host their ninth annual Naturalization Oath of Allegiance Ceremony. U.S. District Court Judge Marcia Morales Howard will administer the oath to one hundred applicants from 52 countries, including six active-duty service members, as they become U.S. citizens.
In the third quarter, the Jaguars will recognize JFRD Lieutenant Pamela Ramsdell as this week’s Community Champion. Ramsdell, a 21-year department veteran and fifth-generation Jacksonville firefighter, works as a K9 handler with Florida Task Force 5 and mentors young burn survivors and aspiring firefighters.
