A 29-year-old Jacksonville man died early Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 295 South. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred around 5:13 a.m. south of the Wilson Boulevard exit.
The man was driving a sport utility vehicle southbound on I-295 when he encountered a disabled vehicle stopped in the center lane. A second vehicle was stopped on the inside shoulder, with its driver assisting the occupants of the disabled car. The Jacksonville man swerved to avoid the disabled vehicle, but the front of his SUV collided with the rear of the second vehicle.
The impact caused the SUV to rotate counterclockwise and block the left travel lane. The driver of the second vehicle sustained no injuries. Authorities stated the deceased driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
