Jacksonville Launches $400K Equipment Push Against Illegal Dumping

Mayor Donna Deegan unveiled new equipment and cameras Monday to combat litter and illegal dumping across Jacksonville, including all-terrain vehicles, trailers, and surveillance systems funded by City Council.

The $400,000 investment will expand cleanup operations to previously hard-to-reach areas and deploy monitoring cameras at dumping hotspots across Duval County. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Solid Waste Division will use footage as evidence for enforcement actions.

Richard Reichard, Director of Administrative Services, said the equipment will allow crews to cover larger areas more safely while working weekends and after-hours through private contractors.

Part of the funding stocks a newly branded volunteer trailer with supplies for Keep Jacksonville Beautiful and Keep Jax Cute, Don't Pollute community cleanup events.

The rollout supports the administration's strategy of increasing cleanup resources while deterring littering. The city's Jax Litter League competition, partnered with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, awards neighborhood teams prizes including a private suite at a game and the first pitch.
