Strong Storms Approach: Seek Shelter in Perry, Athens, Jackson, Vinton

Residents in Perry, Athens, Jackson, and Vinton counties should seek shelter indoors immediately as strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 50 mph are approaching. The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston WV issued a Special Weather Statement at 10:23 PM EDT, effective until 11:00 PM EDT tonight.

At 10:22 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms along a line from near Williamsport to 8 miles northwest of North Folk Village to 6 miles northeast of Bainbridge, moving east at 30 mph. Impacted locations include Wellston, Mcarthur, Lake Hope State Park, Hamden, Zaleski, Allensville, Creola, Eagle Mills, and Byer.

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. If you are outdoors, move inside a building for safety.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect. If you observe rising water, move to higher ground immediately. Do not drive into areas covered by water.
