Dense Fog Advisory for Eastern Kentucky: Drive with Caution

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, regarding pockets of dense fog affecting parts of eastern Kentucky. This moderate severity alert is effective immediately, October 4, 2026, at 12:22 AM EDT, and is expected to persist until shortly after sunrise, around 6:30 AM EDT.

Visibility has been reduced to below one-quarter mile in numerous locations. The NWS advises that these conditions will continue through the remainder of the overnight period. Affected counties include Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Owsley, Martin, and Pike.

If you must travel, expect sharp reductions in visibility. The NWS urges drivers to use low-beam headlights, allow extra time to reach destinations, and increase separation distance from other vehicles to ensure safety.
