Clarke County residents, including those in Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, need to finalize tropical storm preparations immediately. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, as of October 7 at 4:03 PM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, but the potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph exists. Significant impacts are possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, downed trees, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, with 3-6 inches possible and isolated higher amounts, leading to moderate flooding. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed any flood watches and warnings. No storm surge or tornadoes are expected at this time.

The watch is effective immediately and expires October 8 at 12:15 AM UTC. For local information, contact Clarke County EMA at 251-275-8775 or visit clarkecountyal.com/emergency-management. More weather information is available at www.weather.gov/mob.
