Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Clarke County, Prepare for Dangerous Winds
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clarke County, effective immediately, with dangerous winds, significant rainfall, and potential flooding expected. Residents should complete preparations and move to shelter now.
CLARKE COUNTY — The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Clarke County, including Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, effective immediately, October 8, 2026, at 9:57 PM CDT. This warning remains in effect until October 9, 2026, at 6:00 AM UTC.
Residents should plan for dangerous tropical storm force winds of 58 to 73 mph, with peak gusts up to 50 mph. All remaining efforts to protect life and property must be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible. Unsecured objects can become dangerous projectiles. Expect downed trees, impassable roads, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Prepare for 3-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, which could lead to major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will be dangerous due to submerged streets and potential road closures.
There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding or tornadoes. For local information, contact Clarke County EMA at 251-275-8775 or visit clarkecountyal.com/emergency-management. For NWS updates, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
