Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Clarke County, Prepare for Damaging Winds
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Clarke County, urging residents in Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill to immediately prepare for dangerous winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes.
CLARKE COUNTY – Residents in Clarke County, particularly Jackson, Thomasville, and Grove Hill, must finalize preparations immediately as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, Alabama, issued the warning today, October 8, at 10:06 AM CDT, effective until 6:15 PM CDT.
Dangerous winds are expected, with peak forecasts of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential exists for stronger winds between 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts are possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings. Large trees may be snapped or uprooted, leading to impassable roads and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Act quickly to complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 2-4 inches of rainfall and localized higher amounts. This could prompt evacuations and rescues, and residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions. A few tornadoes are also possible; have a plan to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
No storm surge inundation is expected. For more local information, contact the Clarke County EMA at 251-275-8775 or visit clarkecountyal.com/emergency-management. Further weather updates are available from NWS Mobile at www.weather.gov/mob.
