ISLAMORADA, Village of Islands – In Islamorada, the Village operates under a council-manager form of government, a system designed to ensure administrative competence and efficiency. At the heart of this structure is the Village Manager, who serves as the chief administrative officer, directing the operations of all municipal functions and overseeing Village departments.
The Village Manager holds significant responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the Village. This role includes supervising and coordinating departments, appointing and removing department directors, and preparing the annual budget for the Village Council's consideration. All department heads report directly to the Village Manager, who is ultimately accountable for the efficient operation of municipal services for Islamorada residents.
Working collaboratively with department directors, the Village Manager is tasked with coordinating service delivery to residents, asserting a leadership role within the community, and working to improve intergovernmental relationships. The Manager also assists the Village Council in developing policy proposals, establishing long-range goals for the Village, and identifying revenue-saving opportunities.
In this governmental model, the Mayor's role is primarily ceremonial. The Mayor presides over Village Council meetings and serves as the municipality's head, though they do not engage in daily municipal administration. The Mayor is appointed annually by fellow members of the Village Council.
Residents interested in discussing any topic of concern or general Village matters with the Village Manager are welcome to visit the Administrative Office and Public Safety Headquarters at 86800 Overseas Highway, Islamorada, Florida. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Making an appointment by calling ahead is recommended.
