The Five-Minute Pause That Protects Your Time
You don’t need a dramatic boundary speech to stop overcommitting. Try this small, surprisingly powerful habit before you answer any request today.
The Red Wheelbarrow: Eight Lines That Make You Notice Everything
William Carlos Williams’s tiny poem looks almost too simple to be called a poem—until you notice what its line breaks make your mind do. Read it once, then look at an ordinary object differently.

James Baldwin’s Hard Rule for Changing Anything
Baldwin did not promise that courage would solve every problem. He offered something more useful: a precise distinction between what can be changed and what must first be admitted.

Washington Plays Chicken While Everyone Else Pays the Bill
Congress keeps treating basic government as a bargaining chip, while voters absorb higher prices, thinner services, and another round of political theater. The economy, foreign policy, and technology story all point to the same problem: leaders keep chasing the next headline instead of managing the machinery.

Museum Audio Guides Need to Stop Talking
The modern museum audio guide has become a tiny, overeducated roommate who follows you from painting to painting, explaining things you were perfectly capable of noticing yourself. I propose a radical fix: let us look at the art in peace.

Lanesboro, Minnesota: The Little River Town That Makes You Slow Down
Take the pretty way into Lanesboro, park once, and spend the day wandering beside the Root River. You’ll get bike trails, limestone bluffs, a very good burger, and one surprisingly dramatic waterfall.

Dog License
2026 DOG LICENSES (Available effective 12/1/2025) In Pennsylvania, all dogs must be licensed at the point of purchase or adoption (earliest is 8 weeks of age) and by 3 months if no transfer of ownership has occurred. All dogs that do not have a lifetime license must be licensed by January 1st of each year.Keep your dog safe and protect your wallet. A dog license costs far less than the $500.00 fine plus court costs you could face as the dog owner for not having one. Licensing brings lost pets home faster. A license is easier to spot. A microchip isn't. Give your dog the protection they deserve and keep them licensed.
