Providence Police Arrest Suspect in String of Robberies
Providence Police Department arrested a suspect accused of four failed attempted armed robberies that occurred Thursday evening, according to department records. The crime spree began at approximately 8:38 p.m. when police responded to the first incident of the night.
The suspect's targets included the Shell Gas Station on Elmwood and a 7-Eleven on Cranston Street in the West End. Between robbery attempts, the suspect also committed a street robbery on Manton Avenue, stealing a gold chain from a man during a struggle before fleeing at 8:40 p.m., police said.
Providence Police also sought public assistance in identifying a separate bank robbery suspect wanted in connection with a Citizens Bank robbery on Hope Street on Saturday, July 27. That suspect was described as a Black man wearing a yellow t-shirt with a black t-shirt wrapped around his neck.
Detectives Lieutenant Stephen Gencarella and Detective Sergeant Terrance Greene are leading investigations into these cases. Anyone with information about either incident is encouraged to contact Providence Police.
