North Liberty Police Earn State Accreditation

North Liberty Police Earn State Accreditation

The North Liberty Police Department received accreditation through the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program on April 15.

Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program Director Michael Venema presented the recognition. "Accreditation ensures that the department follows current professional standards, delivers law enforcement effectively and efficiently, and reduces risk and liability for both the agency and its members," Venema said.

The Iowa Police Chiefs Association and Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association launched the voluntary program in 2023. Departments must establish and maintain standards representing current professional best practices while improving service delivery and managing liability.

A North Liberty police representative said the department wants all Iowa agencies to pursue accreditation. "We want it for our community, we want it for our department, we want it for our officers," the representative said. "It shows that we're doing best practices."
