Maine Police Probe Waldoboro Death of Missing Thomaston Man
WALDOBORO, Maine (Day.News) — The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central launched an investigation after 64-year-old Darryl Sanborn of Thomaston was found dead on a dirt road off Wagner Bridge Road in Waldoboro. A passerby discovered the body on April 17, more than two weeks after Sanborn was last seen alive in the area on April 5, according to Maine Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Sanborn's disappearance drew quick attention: Waldoboro Police requested state assistance on April 7. His remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy confirmed his identity but left the cause and manner of death pending, Moss said in a press release first reported by The Lincoln County News.
The quiet community of Waldoboro, in Lincoln County along the Medomak River, sits just minutes from Thomaston, a coastal town known for its shipbuilding history and the Maine State Prison. Police have emphasized there is no known danger to the public, with the investigation ongoing as of late April.
