Residents in Alcona, Ogemaw, Iosco, and Arenac counties should consider seeking shelter indoors as gusty showers with winds up to 50 mph are rapidly approaching. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately until 9:00 PM EDT.
As of 8:04 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated these showers moving southeast at 50 mph. Locations expected to be impacted include Alger, Oscoda, East Tawas, Tawas City, Au Gres, Harrisville, Au Sable, Glennie, Long Lake, South Branch, Maple Ridge, Mikado, Whittemore, Lincoln, Omer, Twining, Turner, Skidway Lake, Tawas Point State Park, and Plainfield Township.
These strong winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. The NWS advises anyone outdoors in the affected areas to seek shelter inside a building for the duration of the statement.
