Mail Addressed to the Deceased - How to Stop or Forward Mail

Mail Addressed to the Deceased - How to Stop or Forward Mail After loved ones pass, you can stop mail from being sent to their addresses. Learn how to file a proper request at the Post Office to redirect their mail or remove them from advertising lists. Advertising – Do Not Contact List The Data & Marketing Association maintains a Deceased Do Not Contact List (DDNC). Within 3 months of registering the deceased's name with DDNC, advertising mail should decrease. Register on DMAchoice.org If You Shared an Address If you shared a mailing address with someone who has died and continue to receive that mail, you have several options: - You may open and manage the deceased's mail as needed. - You may forward all of the deceased's mail to a different address. - You may forward a single piece of mail, for example, to an appointed executor, without going to a Post Office location. To forward the single mailpiece: Neatly cross out your address. Print "Forward to" and the new address on the front of the envelope. Leave the envelope in your mailbox for carrier pickup, drop it off in a blue collection box, or take it to a Post Office lobby drop. If You Have a Different Address To forward the deceased's mail to yourself or to a different address, you must go to a Post Office location to submit a change of address request. You will need to: Provide documented proof that you are the appointed executor or administrator authorized to manage the deceased's mail (Simply having their death certificate is not enough). Complete a change of address request in person.

Rowena-Burdoin Wildfire Relief Donation Effort Update

"Residents of The Dalles, Hood River, Mosier Lyle, Klickitat, and Wahkiacus have once again proven their generosity and passion to help those in need. By working together, citizens have donated items that will help survivors with much-needed resources to rebuild. The first step of the Rowena-Burdoin Wildfire recovery efforts is now complete.  After reconstruction efforts are underway, items will then be distributed to survivors of the fires.  Impacted residents in need of clothing and personal items may stop by Bountiful Blessings at 308 Washington Street or call them at 541-705-5783 for more information. On August 18th and 19th, crews descended on the Wahtonka Cafeteria and the Elks Lodge to pack all the donated items and move the entire inventory to a secure, long-term location.   The second step, which will be distribution of all items – is planned for next spring as impacted residents will need items to rebuild the contents of their destroyed homes. Kudos to the following community partners who assisted in the efforts to serve our community: Bountiful Blessings, City of The Dalles Council, City of The Dalles Police, Downey Furniture, The Dalles Elks Lodge #303, Hanlon Development, Hattenhauer Distributing, The Dalles Lions Club, Mid-Columbia Action Community Council, Mid-Columbia Economic Development District, Nichols Glass Art, North Wasco County School District 21, Oregon Emergency Management, Sawyer's Ace Hardware, Wasco County, and other volunteers."
