LVMPD Busts Cop in $164K Casino Heist Spree

LAS VEGAS — Caleb Mitchell Rogers, a 33-year-old Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer, was convicted Thursday by a federal jury of robbing three casinos and stealing approximately $164,000, marking a rare breach of trust in Nevada's gaming heartland.

The robberies unfolded across Las Vegas hotspots: On November 12, 2021, Rogers struck a casino in west Las Vegas, demanding $73,810 from the cashier cage. Months later, on January 6, 2022, he targeted a North Las Vegas casino for $11,500 using the same direct approach. The final heist came February 27, 2022, at a sportsbook where Rogers yelled threats of a gun, shoved an employee and grabbed $78,898.

United States District Judge Andrew P. Gordon oversaw the four-day trial, where evidence detailed Rogers' firearm brandishing. Sentencing is set for October 12, 2023, with possible penalties up to 20 years per robbery count and life for the gun charge. The FBI and LVMPD investigated, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dan Cowhig and David Kiebler.

This conviction underscores ongoing vulnerabilities in Nevada's $15 billion casino industry, where Strip properties like those hit rely on tight security amid rising thefts.
