Ex-DA Brett Ligon Captures Texas Senate District 4 in Special Election Win

Brett Ligon, a Republican with 17 years as Montgomery County district attorney, won the special election Saturday for Texas Senate District 4, the seat vacated by Brandon Creighton. Creighton stepped down last year to become chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. Ligon bested Democrat Ron Angeletti, an educator and small-business owner who was the sole other candidate on the ballot, according to results reported by the Texas Tribune and KHOU.

The district spans all of Chambers County and portions of Harris, Galveston, Montgomery and Jefferson counties, a reliably Republican area east of Houston. Ligon's win fills the unexpired term through the start of the 2027 legislative session in January. No vote totals were immediately available Sunday morning, but the outcome was not unexpected in the GOP-leaning territory.

Ligon's campaign emphasized his record as a 'fearless defender of public safety,' drawing on his prosecutorial experience to appeal to voters prioritizing law and order. Angeletti positioned himself as a fresh voice for education and small business. The pair now head into a November rematch for a full four-year term, with Ligon holding the incumbent advantage.
