Dow Jones Industrial Average Climbs 1,000 Points as Strait of Hormuz Partially Reopens
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,000 points following reports that Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz for maritime traffic. Simultaneously, the S&P 500 index passed 7,100 for the first time.
News of the reopening followed a period of heightened tensions in the region. Iran stated the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial ships. However, former President Donald Trump indicated a U.S. blockade on Iranian ships and ports remained in effect.
According to the BBC, the partial ceasefire contributed to a plunge in oil prices. Bloomberg News reported Iran's announcement that the Strait of Hormuz was fully open to commercial vessels.
