The Smallest Possible Next Step
When your to-do list starts looking like a personal attack, don’t demand more motivation from yourself. Name the next physical action instead—and watch the fog lift.
Emily Dickinson’s “Hope” Is Not a Bird—It’s Stranger and Stronger Than That
Dickinson gives hope feathers, a song, and astonishing endurance—but refuses to call it a bird. That tiny choice turns a familiar metaphor into something wilder: a creatureless force that can live anywhere.

The Radical Usefulness of Forgiveness
Hannah Arendt did not treat forgiveness as a moral decoration or a soothing feeling. She saw it as one of the few tools we have for escaping the permanent consequences of what cannot be undone.

The Price Tag Is Back in the Driver’s Seat
Washington keeps selling disruption as strategy, while families and employers count the cost in grocery aisles, paychecks, and mortgage statements. Today’s biggest story sits where politics meets arithmetic.

The Immersive Van Gogh Experience Needs to Sit Down
Giant projections of famous paintings are not automatically profound just because the room is dark and everyone is wearing a lanyard. Still, I’m willing to defend what these shows accidentally get right.

City of Bryant Awarded $600,000 Economic Development Grant for Railway Street Improvements
The South Dakota Department of Transportation reminds travelers to steer clear of scams. Please delete texts or emails that state money is owed for an unpaid toll or parking ticket. Reminder: all South Dakota state-owned roads and bridges are toll-free. KXLG Radio: City of Bryant Awarded $600,000 Economic Development Grant for Railway Street Improvements The City of Bryant has been awarded a $600,000 Community Access Grant by the South Dakota Transportation Commission to fund critical infrastructure improvements along Railway Street. The grant will support road upgrades serving both the Farmers Union Co-op and Bryant’s downtown business district. The award is part of a broader state initiative announced by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), which distributed approximately $2.36 million in economic development grants to rural communities across South Dakota. The program covers up to 80 percent of construction costs for projects designed to strengthen local economies and improve access to key community areas, including business sectors, schools, and agricultural hubs. “By supporting local infrastructure improvements, we’re helping communities strengthen their economies, create opportunities, and build a foundation for continued growth today and into the future,” said Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt. Additional Community Access Grants were awarded to the cities of Hoven ($556,200), Leola ($600,000), and Parker ($600,000). For more details on the economic development grant program, visit the SDDOT website or contact Grants Program Engineer Paula Huizenga at 605-773-6253. Applications for Industrial Park and Agri-business Grants remain open through Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026.
