Residents interested in the South Coast Rail project had an opportunity to learn about its potential environmental impacts at a public meeting held on July 9, 2024. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the MBTA hosted the session at the Falmouth High School Auditorium.

The meeting, which ran from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, focused on presenting the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the South Coast Rail initiative. This project aims to extend commuter rail service from Boston to the New Bedford and Fall River areas.

Attendees, both in person at 874 Gifford Street in Falmouth and virtually, received an overview of the DEIR. The report details the anticipated environmental consequences of extending the commuter rail line. Officials were on hand to answer questions from the public regarding the project's scope and its potential effects.

The DEIR serves as a critical document in the planning process, outlining the environmental considerations that MassDOT and the MBTA must address as the South Coast Rail project moves forward. The public meeting provided a forum for community members to engage with the project's developers and voice any concerns or inquiries.
