Waterbury Water Main Break Disrupts Service on Thomaston's Waterbury Road

Staff Writer
May 12, 2026

Waterbury, CT – The City of Waterbury is currently addressing a break in a 42-inch water transmission line located in Thomaston. The incident occurred on Waterbury Road, approximately one mile from the Waterbury line. This transmission line is an integral part of Waterbury’s water system.

Crews from the Waterbury Bureau of Water, alongside Dayton Construction, are on site. They are actively evaluating the situation. Excavation is underway to determine the full extent of the damage. The affected section of the main sits before the area of Thomaston Avenue that previously underwent sliplining work. This work was part of a $13 million infrastructure project completed earlier this year.

Authorities shut down the line. Repair preparations are already in progress. Most necessary materials are on hand. A small number of additional parts are expected to arrive within the next one to two days.

No residents or businesses are expected to lose water service at this time. Some customers may have experienced a temporary drop in water pressure or discolored water. Any discoloration should resolve shortly. Residents who notice discolored water should run their faucets until the water runs clear.

Waterbury Road in Thomaston will be closed and detoured in the area of the break until repairs are completed. The city will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
