U.S. to Escort Ships Through Strait of Hormuz
The United States will begin escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to President Trump. The announcement follows a period of increased tension between the U.S. and Iran.
President Trump, in an interview with an Israeli media outlet, also addressed a recent peace offer from Iran. He stated the offer was "not acceptable."
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important waterway connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. A significant portion of the world's oil supply passes through the strait. An increased U.S. naval presence may affect maritime traffic and international relations in the region.
