Huntsville Funds $348K Passenger Rail Study to Southeast

Huntsville City Council approved a $348,874 contract this week to study potential passenger rail service connecting the city to Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta and Chattanooga.
The Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will fund the study, which DB ECO North America will conduct. Researchers will analyze travel patterns between Huntsville and neighboring metro areas, recommend corridors for further development, identify potential station locations and coordinate with regional stakeholders.
DB ECO North America expects to deliver the initial study by September 2027. The city has not announced a timeline for implementing actual rail service.
"This study will provide valuable insight into Huntsville's place as a travel hub," said Dennis Madsen, manager of urban and long-range planning.
