Huntsville Awards $432K to Nonprofits Serving Homeless

The City of Huntsville awarded $432,000 in Emergency Solutions Grant funding to seven nonprofits providing services to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Catholic Center of Concern-Huntsville received $155,000, the largest share. Family Services Center got $102,000. The remaining recipients were Crisis Services of North Alabama ($50,000), New Futures ($45,000), Downtown Rescue Mission ($30,000), AshaKiran ($25,000), and Community Action Partnership of Huntsville/Madison and Limestone Counties ($25,000).
The funding flows through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grants will support emergency shelter operations, rapid re-housing, homelessness prevention, street outreach and data management. Each organization must submit monthly reports to the city.
"By partnering with dedicated local organizations, we are ensuring that families and individuals facing housing insecurity have access to shelter, essential services and a path toward stability," said Scott Erwin, the city's Community Development Manager.
