Wind Gusts Up to 40 MPH Expected in Northern Berkshire, Rensselaer, Columbia Counties
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Northern Berkshire, Rensselaer, and Columbia counties, warning of wind gusts up to 40 mph until 1:30 PM EDT, urging residents to seek indoor shelter.
Residents in Northern Berkshire, Western Rensselaer, Eastern Rensselaer, and Eastern Columbia counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as gusty showers are tracking through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albany NY issued a Special Weather Statement at 12:41 PM EDT today, October 5, 2026, indicating radar was tracking gusty showers near West Sand Lake, moving east at 50 mph.
The primary hazard is wind gusts of up to 40 mph. These winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. This statement is effective immediately and expires at 1:30 PM EDT today.
Locations impacted include Troy, Pittsfield, East Greenbush, North Adams, Rensselaer, Nassau, Adams, Williamstown, Cheshire, Stephentown, Grafton, Berlin, Florida, Hancock, Savoy, New Ashford, West Sand Lake, Averill Park, Center Brunswick, and Wyantskill. This also includes Interstate 90 between exits 10 and 7.
The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building until the statement expires.
