Ms. Sharifa Shontell Deans Posey, age 52 of Wilson, NC, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, may 15, 2026, in the William Toney's Funeral Home Chapel, 516 S. Poplar St., Spring Hope, NC.  A Service of Love and Dignity is provided by William Toney's Funeral Home, Spring Hope.

Obituary: Alton "Robin" Oliver

Schoharie (Schoharie County): Alton R. “Robin” Oliver 78, of Terrace Mt. Road, Schoharie, NY passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.Robin was born April 21, 1947 in Schoharie, NY, a son of Stuart and Leitha (Pierce) Oliver. He attended Schoharie School and later began working for the Town of Schoharie Highway Department as a Truck Driver and Laborer. He later worked at Coleco’s in Amsterdam and finally, KSI Window’s in Cobleskill where he retired. He was a member of the Cobleskill Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Robin also enjoyed raising and tending to his chickens, hunting, and long country drives with his beloved Barb.Survivors include: his wife, Barbara (Kennedy) Oliver whom he married November 21, 1969, his daughter, Heidi (Scott) Liddle of Cobleskill, his son, William (Courtney) Oliver of Patria, NY, his grandchildren; Seth (Chelsea), Makia, and Liam along with 1 great-grandson, his brother Joel of Schoharie, 4 nephews and 1 niece. Robin was predeceased by his parents and his siblings; Lorraine “Raine” Rossi, Yvonne “Bonnie” Meese and Stuart “Mickey” Oliver.There will be no formal services as per Mr. Olivers’ wishes.The Langan Funeral Home of Schoharie and the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home of Cobleskill are assisting the Oliver family.

Obituary: Kathy Bartlett-Dawson

Gilboa (Schoharie County): Kathy Bartlett-Dawson 61, of State Rte. 990V, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta after a brief battle with cancer.Kathy was born February 1, 1965 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of Richard and Colleen (Eaker) Bartlett. She attended the former Richmondville High School and had worked most recently for Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville as a Dietary Aide. Kathy enjoyed her flower gardens, baking, and home improvements.Survivors include: her father, Richard William Bartlett, Sr. of Gilboa, her children; Dennie (Heather) Conway of Cobleskill and Jasmine Headspeth of Gilboa, several grandchildren, and her siblings; Tammy, Dickie, Steve, and Gail. Kathy was predeceased by her mother, her sons, Alex Conway and Michael Pearson.There will not be formal services as per Kathy’s wishes.The Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home of Cobleskill and the Langan Funeral Home of Schoharie are assisting the Bartlett-Dawson family.

Obituary: William "Bill" Lape

Cobleskill (Schoharie County): William R. “Bill” Lape died peacefully at his home on April 15, 2026 in Cobleskill with his wife Teresa (Zido) Lape of 42 years by his side, after a lengthy battle with a lung disease.He was born June 28,1949 in Cobleskill, NY to S. Ward and Margaret (Peggy) Lape, living in Lutheranville at the Lape homestead until moving to Summit at the age of 5. He attended Richmondville Central School graduating in 1967. Bill enlisted in the Air Force in 1968 at the age of 18. He volunteered to go to Vietnam in 1969 as a munition specialist returning in 1970 to Langley Air Force Base in Virginia as a flight line fireman, being honorably discharged in 1972. Throughout his work career he was employed with General Electric and then for a private contractor in Sharon Springs. He began his lifelong career in 1977 with NYS Department of Correctional Services as a General Mechanic at Camp Summit. He worked in various titles at 7 different correctional facilities throughout New York state until his retirement as a Superintendent at Coxsackie Correctional Facility in 2009. He and Teresa settled in Cobleskill in 2019.Bill is survived by his wife Teresa, 4 children: Christopher (Kimberly), Andrew (Alexis), Matthew (Linda) and Rebecca (John); 9 Grandchildren: Carrie Lape Groves, Jesse Holm, Samantha Holm Strong, Adriana Lape Kitchens, Bailey Lape, Cassandra Lape Mount, Ciara Lape, Matthew Lape, Gabriella Tice; as well as 12 Great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Ward, Jeffrey (Elaine), Richard (Ann), and Timothy (Lynn). He was predeceased by his parents Ward and Peggy Lape and his sister Elizabeth(Betsy) Burt.Bill loved spending time whenever possible with his family and friends, golfing, hunting, traveling and watching his New York Jets, New York Mets and Syracuse Orange. He also enjoyed time spent on Lape mountain. He had served as a volunteer fireman with the Sharon Springs and Richmondville Fire Departments for many years as well as an EMT with the Sharon Springs Rescue Squad. He also served as a Justice of the Peace in Sharon Springs. Bill was a member of the Barnerville United Methodist Church and the American Legion.There will be no public funeral services per Bill’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any Veteran organizations throughout New York State in memory of William R. Lape.The Guffin/Langan Funeral Home of Cobleskill, NY are assisting the Lape family.

" NOTICE: Meeting of the Board of Education There will be a meeting of the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. The board is scheduled to hold a budget hearing. This meeting will be held in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room at Guilderland High School and is open to the public. Members of the GCSD community are welcome to attend and are encouraged to voice their ideas, questions and concerns.
