HUDSON — The Hudson City Council has authorized the city manager to solicit bids for the second phase of the Velocity Broadband Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) project. The council voted Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, to advance the expansion of high-speed internet access to residents.
This phase follows the cancellation of previous contracts due to updated safety specifications. The city consolidated originally planned work areas, including sections near historic neighborhoods by Oelsner Park, anticipating a more streamlined construction process.
Resolution No. 26-133 grants the city manager authority to advertise for bids from qualified contractors. The city manager will then select the lowest and best bidder to enter into a contract.
The council declared the action an emergency, underscoring the urgency of the fiber expansion. The project is a significant infrastructure undertaking for the city, vital for businesses along U.S. 19 and beyond.
Residents can find project updates through official city channels. The city manager's office will oversee the bidding and subsequent contract awards.
