The National Weather Service (NWS) Upton NY has issued this advisory, which is in effect until 12:00 PM EDT today, September 27. Sustained northeast winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with local gusts potentially hitting 35 to 40 mph, and isolated gusts up to 45 mph.
Impacts from these strong winds may include unsecured objects being blown around. Tree limbs could be brought down, and a few power outages are possible. The NWS notes that these strong winds are anticipated to last for a long duration, potentially exceeding 24 to 36 hours. The combination of prolonged rainfall and trees still in full foliage may worsen these impacts. The highest localized winds are expected on eastern Long Island and southern New London county.
