Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Lee, Itawamba, Chickasaw, Monroe Counties
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Lee, Itawamba, Chickasaw, and Monroe counties until Saturday afternoon, with gusty winds up to 50 mph and heavy rainfall expected from Tropical Storm Isaias.
Residents in Lee, Itawamba, Chickasaw, and Monroe counties should prepare for gusty winds and heavy rainfall as Tropical Storm Isaias continues its northward trajectory. The National Weather Service in Memphis TN issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement on October 9 at 10:16 PM CDT, indicating a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for these areas through Saturday afternoon.
Isaias, currently located about 270 miles south-southeast of Tupelo, MS, is moving north at 20 mph with storm intensity of 90 mph. Wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph are anticipated, with potential impacts including damage to unanchored structures, fallen tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
Heavy rainfall is also expected, with up to 3 inches possible. This could lead to moderate rainfall flooding, potentially causing rivers and tributaries to overflow, especially in vulnerable areas. Flood waters may enter some structures, and several areas could experience rapid inundation in low-lying spots. Road and bridge closures are possible.
The next local statement from the National Weather Service in Memphis TN is expected around 4:30 AM CDT, or sooner if conditions warrant. For preparedness information, consult ready.gov, getagameplan.org, and redcross.org.
