Freeze Warning: Protect Plants and Plumbing Until 9 AM MDT Today

A Freeze Warning is in effect until 9 AM MDT today for Cody Foothills, North, Southwest, and Southeast Bighorn Basin; protect plants and outdoor plumbing from sub-freezing temperatures.

Staff Writer

Residents in the Cody Foothills, North Bighorn Basin, Southwest Bighorn Basin, and Southeast Bighorn Basin are urged to take immediate action to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing due to a Freeze Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, WY.

The Freeze Warning is in effect until 9:00 AM MDT this morning, October 12, 2026. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit are possible across the affected areas. These conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The NWS advises taking steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Covering plants or bringing them indoors can prevent damage. Additionally, consider insulating outdoor pipes or allowing faucets to drip slightly to prevent freezing.
