ACTION ALERT: Dangerous rip currents are expected along the coasts of Horry and Georgetown Counties until 8 PM EDT this evening, October 11. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 10 AM EDT this morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington NC has issued a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory affecting Coastal Horry and Coastal Georgetown Counties. Swimmers are advised to swim only near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor coastal flooding is expected, with up to half a foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches may experience minor flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks may also observe minor coastal flooding. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Residents in flood-prone properties should take necessary actions to protect their property. Check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures.
