Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Eastern Chichagof Island; Drivers Urged to Slow Down

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for Eastern Chichagof Island, including the Hoonah area, until 9:00 AM AKDT today, urging drivers to slow down and use headlights due to low visibility.

Eastern Chichagof Island residents, particularly those in the vicinity of Hoonah, are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving this morning due to a Dense Fog Advisory. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Juneau has issued this advisory, effective immediately until 9:00 AM AKDT today, October 8, 2026.

Visibility is reported to be one-quarter mile or less in the dense fog, creating hazardous travel conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down, use their headlights, and maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles.

The advisory was issued by NWS Juneau AK at 2:14 AM AKDT and will remain in effect until 9:00 AM AKDT.
