Citrus County Fire Rescue Gets $3.5M for New Inverness Airport Station

Citrus County Fire Rescue will relocate Fire Station 8 to Inverness Airport using $3.5 million in state funding, extending fire and EMS coverage to approximately 7,200 homes in Inverness Highlands and surrounding areas.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia presented the funding on February 2 at Fire Station 20 in Pine Ridge. Fire Chief Craig Stevens said the new station will improve response times and operational efficiency across the region.

The relocation may help residents qualify for lower homeowners insurance premiums through Citrus County's improved ISO Public Protection Classification rating of Class 3/3Y, which measures fire protection effectiveness.

The state also funded fire stations in Gilchrist County, Inglis, Williston, Inverness, Cross City, and Bronson.
