Carrie P. Meek Center Empowers Miami Entrepreneurs

The Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center, a key outreach hub for Miami Dade College's North Campus, equips residents with skills in entrepreneurship, business, technology, community development, and vocational trades. The center provides a supportive learning environment focused on in-demand job skills.

Beyond academics, the Meek Center offers comprehensive student and academic support, including admissions, registration, advisement, career counseling, financial aid, workforce scholarships, and tutoring. A computer lab and food pantry are also available.

The center offers credit degree programs, certificate programs, and vocational training, with tutoring available in Math, English, and Reading. Library services are also accessible.

Program highlights include a College Credit Certificate in Early Childhood Education – Administrator. This four-class program, with all courses transferable to an associate degree, prepares participants for two State of Florida Department of Children and Family credentials and teaches them to manage quality childcare programs. Classes meet on Saturdays, with students taking one course at a time.

The Network Security certificate program, a five-class series with all courses transferable to an associate degree, trains students for CompTIA certifications including Security+, Linux+, Network+, and CySA+. Miami Dade College covers the cost for one CompTIA certification. Classes are available mornings, evenings, and weekends.

The Crime Scene Technician certificate program requires nine classes and trains students in crime investigation techniques, including fingerprinting and physical evidence analysis. Classes run mornings and evenings.

A Digital Marketing Strategy certificate program, consisting of six classes, focuses on designing, implementing, managing, and analyzing digital marketing campaigns. Students can earn a Facebook Industry certification. Classes are offered mornings, evenings, and weekends.

The Graphic Design Support certificate program, with four classes, trains students to create promotional materials for print, multimedia, and web, preparing them for roles like Graphic Design Assistant. Classes meet on Fridays.

Students can also complete general requirements at the Meek Center for admission into medical programs, including Nursing, Physician Assistant, Dental Hygiene, and Emergency Medical Services.

The Business Entrepreneurship Start-up Venture program offers a certificate after completing four classes, with all courses transferring to an associate degree. This program trains students to launch and operate their own businesses, including developing a business plan and potentially competing in a business plan competition. Tuition and textbook scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
