Taylor Swift to Receive Inaugural Artist Director Honors at VMAs

Local music icon Taylor Swift will receive a new award at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27. Swift will be honored with the first-ever Artist Director Honors.

The award recognizes music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded music video possibilities and advanced visual storytelling. This honor highlights Swift's work as a director and visual storyteller for her music videos and short films.

Swift has directed many of her videos, earning four MTV Video Music Awards for Best Director from seven nominations. Her directorial credits include videos and short films such as "The Fate of Ophelia," "Opalite," and "Anti-hero." Her 2020 video for "The Man" marked her directorial debut and won a Moon Person award.

Paramount stated Swift "has brought an increasingly expansive approach to storytelling, creating interconnected narratives, cinematic worlds and recurring details that invite audiences deeper into each project." The award acknowledges her body of work and artists' growing influence in shaping their music's visual presentation.

Swift also holds nine VMA nominations this year. She is currently tied with Beyoncé for the most VMA wins, with 30 each, and is expected to surpass this record Sunday night.

Snoop Dogg will host the VMA ceremony, which will include a tribute to George Michael. Nirvana is scheduled to receive the Video Vanguard Award.
