Pickens County Deputy Arrested for Voyeurism, Stalking

A Pickens County Sheriff's Office deputy has been relieved of duty following his arrest on charges of voyeurism and electronic stalking. James Long Reed, 47, was taken into custody Wednesday, Sept. 16, according to online booking records.

Reed faces one count of first-degree voyeurism and two counts of electronic stalking. He is held without bond in the Pickens County Jail.

Sheriff Jordan Powell said his office learned of allegations of misconduct involving an employee Sept. 11. Powell consulted the district attorney's office and requested the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation conduct a probe. The agency's findings led to Reed's arrest.

"As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability," Powell stated. "When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime. Our badge does not place us above the law, and maintaining the public’s trust requires accountability at every level."

The sheriff's office did not provide further details regarding the allegations or the circumstances of Reed's arrest, referring inquiries to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.
