Mets' Jared Young Hospitalized After Brutal On-Field Collision at Citi Field

New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was taken from the game on a stretcher Thursday night after a collision at Citi Field. Pitcher Nolan McLean kneed Young in the head while both players attempted to cover first base during the sixth inning.

The incident occurred when Philadelphia Phillies player Justin Crawford hit a slow ball toward first base. As McLean scrambled to field the ball, his knee struck Young in the head. Young remained on the ground for approximately five minutes while paramedics attended to him.

Medical personnel immobilized Young's neck and placed him on a stretcher. As he was taken off the field, Young gave a thumbs-up to the crowd, indicating he was conscious. Shortstop Francisco Lindor described the scene as "scary," and interim manager Andy Green called it "terrifying."

Young showed concussion symptoms Thursday night while hospitalized, though an earlier CT scan came back negative. The Mets ultimately lost the game 3-0.
