Consumers who used independent ATMs between Oct. 24, 2007, and Aug. 14, 2026, may be eligible for compensation as part of a proposed $167.5 million settlement with Visa and Mastercard.

Independent ATMs, typically found in convenience stores, hotels, bars and gas stations, are not owned by traditional banks or financial institutions. The lawsuit, Burke v. Visa Inc., filed in 2011, alleged that Visa and Mastercard rules prevented independent ATM operators from offering lower fees when transactions could be processed through competing networks, leading to higher consumer costs.

Visa will contribute $88.775 million to the settlement fund, and Mastercard will pay $78.725 million. Both companies deny any wrongdoing.

The deadline to file a claim is Feb. 10, 2027. A court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2027.

Claim forms and more information are available on the official settlement website or by calling 866-893-1052.
